Jazz - we've got it covered!

Group umbrella

The weather might have been a bit wet but the music was cool at HAD’s fourth annual jazz night on June 21.

Held, as always, in Director Edna Stephens’s Lemsford Village garden the event attracted over 200 people who enjoyed sparkling sets from the two bands on stage.

Fans tucked into picnics while listening to regulars Bob Thomas and the Thomcats and newcomers Liquorice Allsax.
And even when the rain started falling midway through the evening there were plenty of HAD umbrellas on hand to shelter under.

Seen doing just that above are event organiser Edna, together with helpers Paul Bishop, Annabelle Waterfield and Margaret McCreadie.

The good-quality golf style umbrellas sport our 50th anniversary logo as well as being in HAD’s house colours. Priced at £20 each, they are sure to be in demand during the coming months and should prove a hit at HAD’s Golf Day at Mill Green GC on September 19. They are available from the Woodside Centre now.

Not even the rain could spoil things for one visitor – Lis Meyland-Smith. Lis was celebrating her 70th birthday with 50 friends who shared a large marquee and plenty of food and drink.
Lis is an old friend of Edna’s and certainly should have felt at home – she used to own the house before Edna and Roger bought it.

The evening raised over £1500 with the raffle taking £350.

Photographer Stuart Bendig took plenty of pictures and is donating £2.50 from every print sold to HAD. Pictures are on Stuart’s website: www.stuartbendigphotography.co.uk and click on shop online/events/music festival.
