Everyone at HAD was sad to learn of the death of our Chairman Terry Stevens at the beginning of March.
Here is a tribute from Chief Executive Annabelle Waterfield…
After serving in the Royal Navy during the War, Terry worked for the Post Office, progressing to Manager with over 900 staff. When he retired his friend Len suggested he do ‘a bit of driving’ for the local group of HAD.
Terry did this and shortly after became the Chairman of that group. In those days Chairmanship of a local committee gave one a seat on the Management Committee of the parent organisation – then called Hertfordshire Association for the Disabled.
Thirteen years ago Terry became Chairman of that Management Committee, where he remained until his death, offering sound advice, a shoulder to cry on and a total commitment to the work of HAD. Terry was a kind and honourable man and I am proud to say that over the years he became my best friend.
When the work on the refurbished exhibition area is complete we intend to re-launch it as ‘The Terry Stevens Centre’ he deserved nothing less.
