Mobility Centre

Driving lessons and assessments.

The Mobility Centre offers driving ability assessments to people with disabilities to ascertain which type of vehicle would best suit them and ascertain if they require any adaptations to the vehicle. The Centre has five dual-controlled vehicles, some of which are specially adapted. The adaptations include hand controls, lightened power steering, left foot accelerator pedal and infrared controls that enable people with the use of only one arm to steer and operate the indicators etc.

Some clients attend a driving assessment because they have a medical condition or head injury, which has caused cognitive difficulties such as slowed reactions, memory loss and problems with concentration. The assessment will determine whether or not they have the ability to continue to drive in safety.

The Mobility Centre also offers free advice and demonstrations of equipment to help clients get in and out of a vehicle more easily and load a wheelchair into a car. We have equipment such as wheelchair ramps, hoists and swivel seats.
