The hard-hitting batsman recently skippered his home county to a first-time triumph in the Minor Counties Knockout Final. Suffolk beat favourites Cheshire by 35 runs in the 50 overs-a-side contest at Lord’s.
“I’ve been with Suffolk for 26 years – 14 as skipper – and this is the highlight of my career,” Phil explained. “Cheshire were undefeated in all competitions this season and a really strong side, so this win, at the home of cricket, was really special.”
Although the win was ultimately fairly comfortable it didn’t feel that way at the time. “It was fairly nerve-racking but we bowled and fielded superbly and our professional attitude ultimately paid dividends.”
