Naming Ivanhoe

HAD’s Mobile Easier Living Centre – Ivanhoe – has been officially named.

A host of dignitaries, led by David Lloyd, Executive Member of Adult Care Services, Herts County Council, joined HAD staff at the ceremony at The Woodside Centre.

The former railwayman’s maintenance lorry has been travelling the county for three years and has been known as Ivanhoe for all of that time. Our Chief Executive Annabelle Waterfield and Easier Living Centre Manager Sue Howie came up with the name and after a recent re-fit it was decided the time was right for the christening.

At the ceremony David Lloyd told the gathering that Sir Walter Scott, author of the book Ivanhoe, had polio as a child. “But that didn’t stop him being an enthusiastic outdoorsman,” he said. “Now because of HAD and Ivanhoe here in Hertfordshire we can make sure people with a disability can be as independent as possible.”

The lorry boasts a complete re-spray and new livery in HAD’s colours of blue and green, as well as new display cabinets, workstation and non-slip floor inside.

Driver/Assistants Ken Ford and Paul Robinson offer a host of products, including four-wheel and three-wheel walking-frames, zimmer-frames and a selection of specially adapted household appliances. Larger items are available at HAD’s HQ at the Woodside Centre in WGC.
