HAD and local rail provider First Capital Connect (FCC) are on the right track when it comes to improving travel facilities for disabled people.
Yes HAD has teamed up with FCC to give disabled rail travellers a first-class service by providing station to station transport for FCC’s disabled passengers throughout Hertfordshire and beyond.
HAD's unique 24 hour accessible transport service will be on call to ensure disabled travellers' journeys run as smoothly as possible.
Transport Manager Phil Caley, HAD Chief Executive Annabelle Waterfield, FCC's Lee Millard, HAD Transport Driver Kevin Cole and Annabelle's Personal Assistant Steph Pitfield are pictured above and below sampling the new facilities.
'From now on when one of our disabled customers is travelling to or from an inaccessible station we will call on HAD to help them complete their journey,' said Lee Millard, FCC's Customer Services Liaison Manager.
FCC is in the process of improving facilities at several local railway stations with the impressive new-look St Albans City station the first to be completed.
The £4m refurbishment includes new lifts, hearing loops, automatic wide isle ticket gates for wheelchair users, non-slip floors and a dedicated bus interchange area with kneeling bus step free access.
'Hertfordshire Action on Disability has always believed that access to transport is important to disabled people,” HAD Chief Executive Annabelle Waterfield explained. 'That’s why we are pleased to be associated with FCC at the start of an exciting project like this. It’s good news for all concerned – especially disabled rail users,' Annabelle continued.
