Anyone for tennis?

Keen golfer David Williams swapped sports and enjoyed an action packed opening day at Wimbledon with his wife Angela recently. David successfully bid for two centre court tickets at HAD's annual golf day last year. Here's Angela's account of how the day went...
The train journey to Southfields went smoothly, the walk to the ground slow but steady and quicker than the cars on the road, the crowds were buzzing with anticipation and the sun shone all day. Wimbledon looked a treat on the first day of play, everything freshly painted, flowers in bloom and smiling stewards.
Luckily our centre court seats were situated above the royal box were in the shade all day and although no ‘Royals’ could be seen we did spot a few sporting greats - Jackie Stewart, Bob Willis, Jonathan Edwards and Phil Tufnell. When play began we were treated to a masterclass display by Roger Federer (last year’s champion) for the first match of day 1. Roger managed to keep cool and calm throughout on such a hot day, beating Dusan Lajovic in straight sets.
Next up came Caroline Wosniaki, winning efficiently in two sets. Last but not least, Stan Wawrinka and Grigor Dimitrov who kept us on the edge of our seats until 7pm. The crowd urged on unseeded Wawrinka who duly rose to the challenge and won in four sets (two tie-breaks), having lost the first set 1-6. The atmosphere was electric and, judging by the distant cheers, on other courts too. I must say the ball boys and girls did not stop running around, it was exhausting watching them let alone the players! A wonderful day out – thank you HAD.
This year's HAD Golf Day takes place on Wednesday 10 October at The Hertfordshire, Broxbourne.
