Man of letters gets back on the road

28 July 2011

When HAD customer Francis Spear read about the charity’s funding cut dilemma in the local press he was understandably concerned.

Francis, from Ware, wrote to HAD’s Driving Centre Manager David Wooder expressing these concerns and enclosed a cheque for £1,000.

Francis, 79, has always been a man of letters. He represents the fourth generation of the world famous games manufacturer JW Spear, best known for the word game Scrabble.

He originally had a driving assessment with David two years ago. Subsequent adaptations to fit hand controls to his Toyota Prius made driving easier and safer.

“David was friendly, thorough and professional throughout the assessment,” Francis explained. “The adaptations went so well that within two days I drove myself and my wife Hazel to our holiday flat in Switzerland!”
