New boys take Fundraising HAD Golf Trophy
23 September 2011
Our fifth annual HAD Golf Day swung into action on September 23rd 2011.
The venue was once again Welwyn Garden City Golf Club and the 40 golfers were blessed with perfect playing conditions.
New team Grand Slam, skippered by Lemsford resident Antony Baxter, enjoyed the conditions the best, taking the HAD trophy with an impressive 102 points.
They finished a point ahead of previous winners PSG with the HH Hackers in third place with 99 points.
"It was a great day and the course was in superb condition," nine-handicapper Antony explained. "The greens were pretty quick and some of the pin positions asked a lot of questions but thankfully we managed to card a good score."
Best individual score was 39 Stableford points from Jon Watts with Robin Gray taking the nearest the pin and longest drive prizes.
The well-supported charity raffle and auction managed to help raise more than £2,000 for HAD as our Chairman of Fundraising Paul Bishop explains: "The support we got on the day was fantastic and not just from the HAD golfers. Many club members supported the event by buying raffle tickets and I¹d personally like to thank each and every one of them. I'd also like to thank Dave Cox, Tim Bonnett, Dave Comeskey and Chris Pomroy for all their hard work and help.
Events like this are becoming increasingly important, especially as the charity's local government funding ceases over the next two years."
Our next HAD fundraiser is a Charity Art and Craft Exhibition in Old Hatfield on December 3rd and 4th. It provides you the perfect opportunity to purchase Christmas gifts with a difference. More details are available from Edna Stephens on 01707 321802.
