A sound fundraising idea has raised over £300 for HAD.

Herts University business students Jemma Birkin, Yingying ‘Vivi’ Chen and Robert Breen (pictured above)  organised a special DIY DJ music night recently.

‘Fundraising events form part of our small business module and we thought it would be great to support HAD,’ 24-year-old Jemma explained. ‘And when HAD’s Chief Executive Annabelle Waterfield gave a talk at the University late last year, that made up our minds.’

The event took place at popular music venue the Salmon and Compass in Islington, close to 21- year-old Robert’s Wood Green home.

‘It was a really great evening and gave a chance to up-and-coming DJs to show what they can do,’ Robert said.

Tickets cost £3.50 in advance and £5 on the door and a 15-minute DJ set cost £2.

The university’s Marketing Tutor Nicky Shevlane was full of praise for the students: ‘The students wanted to support a smaller local charity and HAD fitted the bill perfectly.’

As part of their course work a number of students have also been helping HAD by producing marketing proposals. The best ten proposals have been chosen and the winning one will be announced at HAD’s AGM in September.

‘There are some really encouraging ideas and as well as picking a winner we will be utilising the best parts of all the final ten proposals to help us with our future marketing plans,’ HAD’s Chief Executive Annabelle Waterfield explained.
